Bugs/Quirks in Microprose's computer version of Magic The Gathering

Last updated: 10th Feb 2003

Fatal bugs:

The game will crash if life points exceeds 999 (untested - I've only
got to 725 so far!!). You could try this in dungeons where your life
points (positive or negative!) carry over from duel to duel :->

Logic bugs:

The AI does not cope well with your Spirit links on its creatures
	- it will keep on attacking with that creature, even if you gain life
from it (I had cast 2 Spirit Links on Arkazon's 9/9 Colossus of Sardia
and also used 4 Spirit Links on an opponent's 10/10 Leviathan!).

Sylvan Library only works properly in your (marked) draw phase. Click
on the "Draw a card", so you see the card and then click Sylvan Library
as a fast effect to see the other 2 cards.

The AI does not handle Circles very well when it has a Disenchant
in its hand - I've seen it cast Disenchant on my Yotian Soldier instead
of my COP: Red which would have won it the game!

The AI has no idea that your Mishra's Factories can be turned into
2/2 creatures (or 3/3 etc) for defense, so it keeps losing its attacking
1/1 creatures to them - sweet!

The AI is also clueless against Deserts, it will keep attacking with its
creatures even if they will die to the Desert effect (1 dmg at end of
	combat to attacking creature).

If you have Nevinyrral's disk in play, the AI will play as if it
doesn't exist (ie continue to bring out creatures etc). Drop of Honey
	has a similar result.

The AI has no idea about how to play against Rukh Eggs as well: I
can attack with one and the AI will block with creatures, killing
the Rukh Egg (which means I get a 4/4 flyer at end of turn). Oops.

The AI does not handle Mana Crypts all that well - in my humble opinion,
I wouldn't have used them at all (unless they are fed to Atogs
which I have seen the AI do). The AI puts Mana Crypts in play as soon
as it can - often when it doesn't need them - and then there is a 50%
chance of it taking 3 damage every turn until it kills itself!

I have seen the AI play *no* land in its first few turns and actually
discard land as well!!! I suspect this only occurs with a certain
type of AI deck/creature but I don't know why.

Ring of Ma'Ruf is from any card in the game rather than from your
collection - Bronze Tablet here we come (let me just steal the
opponent's cards)!! A Bronze Tablet obtained by a Ring of Ma'Ruf is
considered an external card to your collection and hence you don't
lose anything...this is a great way to steal those really cool cards:
	Moxes/Black Lotus etc.

Tempest Efreet and Pandora's Box also involve creatures from outside
	your current collection.

--- My thanks to Steve Baillie for the following:

Aswan Jaguars hunt creatures from your collection rather than your
deck and have been known to destroy a creature that wasn't listed.

Cylcopean Tomb can only be used in your upkeep (mark the phase first).

On multilands which include mountains, Conversion doesn't work
correctly - the affected land may intermittently change from plains to
its original state (may be fixed in a patch).

--- My thanks to Zoop for the following:

Hi, i saw yer site and saw the bugreport about the magic: the gathering
pc-cdrom game, i own version 1.0 and i've seen a major bug! my opponent
(an elder i believe) casted a verduran enchantress, and drew card for
every card he played!!! it didnt matter to him if the card was an
enchantment or not, he drew cards all the time, and when i tried to do
the same thing.... it wouldnt let me!!

[I have seen the Verduran Enchantress gain a card even when I have
Counterspelled the Enchantment-if I remember correctly, the Enchantress
should only draw a card when she successfully casts an Enchantment.]

--- My thanks to Ben Holliday for the following:
Kismet auto targets you and there's no way (that I know of) to change it!

[Seems weird, I will have to test with the most recent patch.]
