Hi, This is the location where you can download the Ingres ODBC driver and it is full functional, not a demo:Ingres ODBC Drivers from Actian
other info: CA ODBC Driver for Ingres Lightning Fast! Unlimited Potential For Enterprise Use Of Desktop Software The CA ODBC driver for Ingres significantly enhances the performance and speed of accessing any data type, anywhere on a network, through ODBC-compliant Windows-based applications. The CA ODBC driver for Ingres is compliant with Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) interface specifications. ODBC is a specification for an application programming interface (API) that enables applications to access multiple database management systems using Structured Query Language (SQL). ODBC permits maximum interoperability-a single application can access many different database management systems. This enables an ODBC developer to develop, compile, and deploy an application without targeting a specific type of data source. Users can then add the database drivers that link the application to the database management systems of their choice. The CA ODBC driver enables any ODBC compliant application running on a Windows platform (3.1, 95, or NT) to access Ingres 6.4, OpenIngres 1.x or 2.0, Ingres II, or any of the Ingres enterprise access gateways. Major Benefits -------------- Increased interoperability with desktop tools such as report writers & Microsoft Excel. Thousands of ODBC compliant applications on the market that you can choose from. Increased speed It's FREE! System Requirements ------------------- Any Ingres server release or gateway, including Ingres Desktop. If the ODBC application in not on the same machine as the server, then Ingres NET, release 1.2 genlevel 9701 or later, is needed on the client only. Download -------- If Ingres for Windows NT or Ingres for Windows 95 is installed then the 32-bit Driver should be installed. If Ingres 1.2 Net client for Windows 3.1 is installed on Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or Windows NT, then the 16-bit Driver should be installed. Drivers 32-Bit Driver for Windows NT version 2.80.0021 (822K EXE) 32-Bit Driver for Windows 95 version 2.80.0021 (822K EXE) 16-Bit Driver version 2.80.0021 (639K EXE) Or call 1-888-7INGRES (1-888-746-4737) Product names are trademarks of Computer Associates International, Inc. or their respective companies. for ingres/net just ask for it from the local CA vendor, distributor, vendor or office. be aware that you will buy ingres II/workgroup edition, which on windows95 will install only the client component. *************************************************************************** OpenLink Software is shipping a High Performance 16/32 Bit ODBC Driver for Ingres that doesn't require Ingres Net. This Driver averages a network transfer rate of 220 KB/Sec when called by 16 Bit applications running within NT 3.5's 16 bit subsystem. In the Windows 16 Bit world this Drivers performance is unrivalled ! To communicate with Ingres/NET on a server Ingres/NET must be present on the remote system (the PC) as a communication mechanism so that a common understanding of data and messages(protocol) passed between the two systems can be established. The same is true as when using telnet from a PC to a Unix server, a Telnet emulator is need to establish and manage a link with the telnet demon on the Unix server. The Ingres ODBC driver translate ODBC calls into a something Ingres/NET understands and then asks Ingres/NET to communicate this to Ingres/NET on the server which then pass it on the DBMS which will return a result via the same route. ie VB app<-->ODBC driver<-->Ingres/NET <--(LAN/WAN)-->Ingres/NET<--->Ingres DBMS I know of and have used two ODBC drivers, one from Intersolve ( http://www.intersolv.com/datadirect/index.asp ) and one from SCO ( http://www.sco.com/vision/products/sqlretriever/ ) that dont use Ingres/NET as an underlying communication mechanism. What these products do is communicate with a service (which is provided and needs to be installed) on the DBMS host server which the passes the request on to the DBMS, ie VB app<-->ODBC driver<--(LAN/WAN)-->SOME SERVICE<--->Ingres DBMS Both models have their merits and disadvantages, but the second does mean that there are less components installed and running on the client. Hope this helps.
