From: s.selin@jc.se Subject: RE: OI 1.2 on Solaris 2.4: install ? Hi Gregg ! We run O.I 1.2 on Solaris 2.4. Then we upgraded to OI 1.2 the Ingres account already existed and no changes were necessary, so I don't remember exactly how I did it then I set up the Ingres account the first time. However is the ingres account not a member of any kmem group in our installation. I think you just need to make sure that the Ingres account can access /dev/kmem. Sten Selin, Sweden s.selin@jc.se ---------- ~From: gat@aretha.jax.org Hi folks, Anyone out there running OI 1.2 on Solaris 2.4 or higher? If so, how did you setup your ingres account, and access to kmem? The install doc says to create group kmem, make it the ingres account's primary group, and make /dev/kmem group kmem, group readable. Seeing as /dev/kmem on stock Sol 2.4 looks like (it's a symlink to this, actually): crw-r----- 1 root sys 13, 1 Oct 25 1994 /devices/pseudo/mm@0:kmem I'm not inclined to change it's group setting, not knowing what else I might be doing. I instead made the primary group of the ingres account "sys". So far the install is running without incident. - Gregg Gregg TeHennepe | Unix Systems Administrator | The Jackson Laboratory gat@jax.org | http://www.jax.org/~gat | Bar Harbor, Maine USA
