The symlink method is unsupported. It does work however, and I have never had any problems with it (I had the symlink at the beginning of the path, it just pointed to the whole "hidden" location, II_CHECKPOINT et.al. contained the path name of the symlink itself) I used this to decouple Ingres's namespace from the sysadm's one. (IMHO this coupling is pathological ...) An alternative and cleaner way would be to mount the new diskpartition on the same mountpoint: nothing will change, except for the physical device.
